FAQ

What is the typical thickness of a panel?

The panel thickness for a water feature panel is ¾ inch thick. The panel thickness for an outdoor kitchen panel is 1¼ inch thick.

What is the strength of a panel?

The panels will cure with a compressive strength of 10,580 psi and a flexural strength of over 1,650 psi.

Why are the panels so strong?

The panel mix contains a proprietary blend of alkali-resistant glass fibers (ARG) used in conjunction with a proprietary blend of additives including specialized polymers. The use of this proprietary combination drastically improves long-term durability of the GFRC composite, especially in the maintenance of the long-term flexural strain.

What type of foundation is needed to support the weight of the product?

Unlike virtually all other competitive products, because of the light weight nature of the product, the outdoor living feature can typically be installed directly on a pool deck or paver patio with no additional foundation.

Does the system require any heavy equipment?

The system was designed to minimize property disruption. There is no heavy equipment needed to move the system components. For nearly all applications a Bobcat will be fine for the site preparation work, if needed at all.

How much does a cured five-foot radius panel weigh?

A large water feature panel (12-14 square feet) panel weighs approximately 75 pounds and is hand carried by most laborers.

How does the product withstand the freeze/thaw?

Our product has been subjected to extreme real world testing. We have not experienced any problems related to freeze/thaw with our product. The panel mix polymer additive, has been subjected to an extreme 20-year study, incorporating temperature and moisture extremes and over 3,000 freeze-thaw cycles without failure.

Is the product fully waterproof?

The panel itself is 100% waterproof.

Is the product safe for fish?

Absolutely. Once cured, there should be virtually no chemicals that will be released by water running over the ClifRock rock formation. This product has been used in hundreds of fish ponds, including koi ponds. We of course are the authority on the chemical properties of our product, not the specific needs of every type of fish one could place in a pond.

Can one grow plant softscape into the rock structure?

There should be no problem planting most softscape into the rock formations, within reason.

Does the system work for adding a water feature in a pool renovation?

Given its light weight, the system is an ideal solution for adding a water feature to a pool in a renovation or remodel. Unlike natural rock or block methods, which require building a substantial foundation to support the weight of the rocks, and often result in damage to the existing pool, our system can usually be added without any significant foundation work.

What special considerations are there when I install a water feature during a pool renovation?

As with any poolside water feature, one would need to follow appropriate pool building techniques for water circulation and taking the necessary precautions associated with modifying an existing pool with existing plumbing. It will also require coring out 4 inch holes, 18 inches in depth that line up with the posts on the frames to insert the frames in concrete for a solid foundation.

Does the system work for adding a water feature to an above ground pool?

Yes, projects have been completed in above ground pool applications. The system can be customized to build alongside of the pool structure, similar to building a stand-alone feature.

Can I place an access panel into my water feature so I can hide my filters?

Yes, you can incorporate an access panel, including one made of a rock panels, into the water feature design so that the mechanical components can be hidden inside the water feature but still accessible.

Can I build a diving rock out of the system?

The flexibility of the system allows nearly any design. Depending on how “extreme” the diving rock, one may need to involve an engineer into the design process.

Are your poolside water features built with the expectation they will be climbed on?

Yes, poolside water features often incorporate water slides, etc, and fully expect to be able to support human weight.

Are there any special considerations with salt water pools?

The ClifRock rock formation should not require any special considerations with respect to a saltwater pool.

Can I build slides out of the product?

The system is an ideal solution to creating the look of a natural rock slide. We have pool installers who have incorporated fiberglass slides into their projects and others who have used the system to build concrete slides.
